갤러리 「아트딜라이트(Art Delight)」는 이준형의 개인전 ‘Brave New World-멋진 신세계’를 개관 후 두 번째 기획으로 전시한다.
이준형은 서울대학교와 영국 센트럴 세인트 마틴(Central Saint Martins)에서 순수미술을 전공했고 빠른 속도의 붓질로 오브제와
배경의 경계가 마치 허물어지듯 보이는 순간을 묘사하는 화풍으로 유명하다. 이번 전시는 작가로서 12번째 개인전이다. 특히 이번 전시는
올더스 헉슬리(Aldous Huxley)의 1932년 소설 ‘멋진 신세계(Brave New World)’를 주제로 세계 각 도시를 그린 작품을 선보인다.
인터넷과 소설미디어가 발달한 21세기에서 사진을 찍는 행위는 대부분 사생활을 공유하거나 과시하려는 의도를 내포한다. 결국 개인의 욕망과 경험을 전달하고 싶은 것이며, 그걸 동의하고 동경하는 사람은 그 경험과 순간을 소유하고 싶은 것이다. 어느 순간과 장면의 공유는 이제 일상적이고 평범한 소통 방식으로 자리잡았다. 하지만, 이러한 욕망은 아이러니하게도 개인을 더욱 고립시키고, 일탈을 꿈꾸게 한다. 작가는 인터넷에서 수집한 관광 명소의 사진을 그리면서 진짜 경험이 아닌 미디어 안 허상 세계에 사는 현대인의 욕망을 표현한다.
미디어 학자이자 <고개 숙이지 않는 인생을 살아라>의 저자인 존 김(John Kim, b.1973~)은 "우리 사회는 개인이 자신의 자유를 향유하는 것을 좋게 생각하지 않기 때문에, 사회 시스템을 구축하였다”며 시스템이 주는 억압에서 '해방'의 중요성을 강조한다.
또 이번 전시에 대해 “어떤 미디어라도 그것이 매개체 역할을 하는 한 인간의 체험은 직접적인 것이 될 수 없고, 간접적인 것에서 벗어날 수도 없게 되었다. 더 문제는 매개된 현실(구축된 현실)이 가공의 것임을 인식하지 못하고 있고, 또 사회는 그것에 대해서 눈치채지 못하게 하는 것을 목적으로 하는 것이다. 하지만, 이번 이준형 작가의 전시는 가상 현실이 현실 그 자체인 것으로 착각하고 있는 현대인의 포장된 감각에 대해서, 그 포장을 찢고 다시 본래의 감각을 실제적인 체험을 통해서 되찾을 수 있는 기회가 될 것이다”고 하였다.

존김 (John Kim) 작가. 한국 태생. 일본에 국비 유학. 학술 박사. 하버드대, 옥스퍼드 대학교, 독일 연방 방위 대학 등에서 객원 연구원, 2004년부터 2013년까지 게이오 대학 특임 준교수. 2013년 이후에는 파리, 바르셀로나, 피렌체, 비엔나, 도쿄를 거점으로 집필 활동 중심의 생활. 저서에 『고개 숙이지 않는 인생을 살아라』, 『시간에 지배되지 않는 삶』 『단언한다. 인생은 바꿀 수 있다』 『내세에도 읽고 싶은 연애론』 소설 『살아 생전에』등, 공저로 소설가 요시모토 바나나 씨와의 『존과 바나나의 행복이 멉니까』가 있다. 『여성자신』 칼럼니스트, KLM네덜란드 항공 앰배서더, Ginza LOFT "보이는 여자 도서관" 관장 등을 역임. 최신작에 『여자가 자력으로 살아가기 위해서 필요한 것』이 있다.
The Gallery Art Delight holds its second exhibition, "Brave New World," from August 17 to September 10. Joonhyung Lee, who majored in fine art at Seoul National University and Central Saint Martin’s in England, describes the moment when boundaries are torn down through fast brush strokes. This exhibition, the 12th solo exhibition of the artist, presents paintings of different cities around the world, inspired by Aldous Huxley’s novel 『Brave New World (1932)』. Taking pictures in the 21st century, when Internet and SNS have developed, has become a way of owning one’s desires and communicating their experiences with others. However, ironically, it makes individuals more isolated, and let them dream of deviation. By painting tourist attractions collected on the Internet, Lee expresses the desire of modern people who live in a false world of media.
John Kim (b.1973~), a media scholar and author of "Live a unsuspended Life" emphasized the importance of emancipation from the system, saying that “It is constructed, while our society does not think that individuals enjoy their freedom.” In addition, he commented on the exhibition that "As long as it serves as a medium, human experience cannot be directly and cannot escape from the indirect. More problematic is that the reality which is constructed is not recognized as a fictitious one, and society aims to avoid being aware of it. However, Lee Joon-hyung's exhibition will be an opportunity to rip the packaging and regain the original sensibility of modern people who believe that virtual reality is reality itself.”
Joonhyung Lee received his BFA from Seoul National University, and later his MA from Central Saint Martin, London. Then, he came back to Seoul National University for his PhD. He depicted human figures, particularly the faces and its multitude expressions to portray the process of suppressing one’s freedom in the social system. Currently, Lee is expanding his works’ scope from paintings to photographs, media works, and installations.
In 2014, Joonhyung Lee Introduced as a notable artist in the Sattchi Gallery Online. He was shortlisted for the Joongang Fine Arts Prize in 2013; the Seoul Museum of Art 2012; and SOMA Drawing Center Archive. Lee has published “A Day In The Life,” which discovers cities seen from the eyes of local artists on the Sattchi Gallery online blog.
John Kim(B.1973-) Author, Media Scholar, visiting researcher at Harvard University, Oxford University, and the Federal Institute of Defense in Germany, and a associate professor at Keio University from 2004 to 2013. After 2013, writing based in Paris, Barcelona, Florence, Vienna, and Tokyo. In the book, "Live a unsuspended life," and "Life that is not ruled by time”, “Life can change”. There is "John and Banana are far from happy," with novelist Yoshimoto Banana, who worked as a writer for the novel "Love Theory I Want to read in the Future" and "In Life of Life." She is a columnist for “Women, herself,” and a director for the Ginza LOFT, KLM-Netherlands “Visible women's Library" in the latest film.
